It's that time of year again!

Summer Reading
Last week, the Howard County Library presented the Summer Reading Program at DOES. Our students’ enthusiasm is running high after learning about the program, new available books, and prizes. The librarians shared the 2018 Summer Reading Lists for students exiting grades K - 5. Please register your child either at a HC Library branch or online (hclibrary.beanstack.org). DOES students may bring their letter of completion to school in September and we will announce their names on the morning announcements.
In conjunction with the Summer Library theme of “Libraries Rock”, we would like to see where our students and staff are “rock’n reading” all summer long. Please send a picture of your family or your child reading this summer. Let’s see these happy readers at pools and parks, at beaches, or anywhere you might read during the summer. Pictures may be sent into the DOES office or electronically to Jane_Slattery@hcpss.org.
The HC Library has a #100K Books Challenge going strong this year by asking adults, teens, and children to register any book they have read by December 31, 2018. Our DOES community can help reach this goal by sending in their summer reading book titles to hclibrary.beanstack.org.
Please remember the HC Library Book Mark Contest which runs from May 14th - July 14th. Students are encouraged to design a book mark and enter it at any library branch. Winning book marks are printed and distributed throughout the county next October.
