Since the beginning of November, students and staff at DOES have been participating in a Mindful Moment every Friday morning. For just a short moment, we take a moment to slow down and notice something about us or around us. So far, our focus has been on taking a moment to breathe.
Research supports many great benefits to focusing on mindfulness including helping children develop a better understanding of their emotions, increase focus and attention, and decrease feelings of worry. If you are interested in increasing mindfulness at home try these few tips:
Mindfulness at the Table: Create a routine either over dinner or before bed of sharing 1 thing you are thankful for that happened during the day
Create your own Mindful Morning by reading a positive phrase before your child(ren) leave for the day
Include mindfulness in daily reading with these great books:
I am Peace by Susan Verde
Puppy Mind by Andrew Nance
Breathe like a Bear by Kira Willey
What Does it Mean to be Present? by Rana DiOrio
I am looking forward to more Mindful Moments this year. Please reach out if you would like any additional resources including websites, apps, books, or articles.
