Dear Dayton Oaks Families,
The winter break is almost upon us. Excitement is in the air as our students embrace all the sights and sounds of the season. With this season comes the promise of colder weather. Please make sure your child dresses appropriately for the weather.

Our students enjoyed coding activities this week in technology class. They worked with robots and coded directions for them to follow and were able to test the coding that they did. It was great to see their involvement and excitement. Coding is a pathway to future careers and our students are really excited about engaging in and with this.

Students should arrive to school by 8:50a.m. so that they are able to put their things away and be ready to start the day when the bell rings at 9:00.
Students go out for recess when the temperature with wind chill is 20 degrees or more. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.
If your child is absent a note is always required, documenting the reason for the absence.

Last week was Inclusive Schools Week. At Dayton Oaks we are grounded in Friendship, Inclusion, Success and Happiness, so including all students every day is something we embrace throughout entire year. During the week, we had the Howard County Autism Society speak with our students about Autism and what they can do to be good friends. Collectively, students made inclusion quilts by identifying how they are unique, and community circles provided students an opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions about inclusion and kindness. It was a great week.
From our family to yours, we hope you are able to enjoy the sights and sounds of the season, taking a moment to enjoy the company of friends and family. These moments are the true gifts of the season. Happy Holidays!
Sincerely,
Nigel La Roche Adrienne Williams-McKinney
