I am excited to announce that DOES will be participating in JA IN A DAY again this year.  As many of you know, this wonderful day is a K-5 curricula of six sequential themes.  Each grade level theme has five hands-on activities that work together to help students understand business and economics, and entrepreneur skills.

Last year this awesome day was a huge success for our students!  This year JA In A Day will be on Tuesday, February 27th ALL DAY !!  We will need one or two parent volunteers for each homeroom class grade K-5. Your responsibility would be to attend a one hour training session, and to facilitate lessons all day in your child’s classroom.  Take a peek below at the specifics.  If you would like more information, or would like to sign up for your child’s homeroom class, please contact jodi_enzman@hcpss.org.

What is "JA in a Day"?

A high impact way to deliver JA’s lessons for a particular grade level all in the same day. Some schools choose to have every grade receive JA programming on the same day. “JA in a Day” is a unique opportunity as it offers volunteers a great opportunity to get involved with Junior Achievement without juggling schedule conflicts or long-term commitments.
What do volunteers do?

Mostly parents, business partners fill in if needed. The volunteers participate in a training session (on-site at your location or at our office) prior to the event where they will obtain their classroom materials and teacher assignments. On the day of the event, volunteers conduct the lessons in the assigned classrooms.

What is the role of the teacher?

During the event, teachers are present in the classroom at all times to partner with the volunteers, help maintain discipline and answer any of the volunteer's questions.
What is JA staff’s role?

Jodi Enzman is liason JA staff plans and coordinates the day and is at the school to help if needed.
How much of a time commitment?

Usually 4.5 hours. Volunteers arrive at the school around 8:30-9:00 a.m. and begin lessons. Typically, volunteers are done between 1 and 2 p.m.

• JA Ourselves™ (Kindergarten) introduces students to the intersection of financial literacy and early elementary grades social studies learning objectives. Through hands-on classroom activities, the program provides students with an introduction to personal economics and the choices consumers make to meet their needs and wants. It also introduces students to the role of money in society while providing them with practical information about earning, saving, and sharing money.
• JA Our Families™ (1st Grade) emphasizes the roles people play in the local economy and engages students with activities about needs, wants, jobs, tools and skills, and interdependence. Also introduces students to entrepreneurship and how family members’ jobs and businesses contribute to the well-being of the family.
• JA Our Community™ (2nd Grade) JA Our Community introduces students to the intersection of work readiness and early elementary grades social studies learning objectives, including how citizens benefit from and contribute to a community’s success.
