DOLFUN RUN: We exceeded our goal and raised $47,640! What to gift DOES with the extra money raised will be discussed at the next PTA General Membership Meeting on November 28. Top earning classes were Ackerman (5), Buchanan (k), Baxter (k), Mayo (2), Bailey (k) and Kidwell (3). A big thank you goes out to our sponsors (for full list see https://daytonoakspta.org/sponsors), the organizers - Carissa Bayer, Ginger Picker, Julie DuTremble, Jennifer Bush and all the parent volunteers who helped to make the DolFun Run a success!

FALL FESTIVAL: Saturday, November 3, 4:00pm-6:00pm. It's that time of year again for our annual Fall Festival!  Don't miss out on the carnival games, obstacle course, face painting, and interactive science demonstration with hands-on experiments for the kids!

NEXT PTA GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING: Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 7pm in the DOES Media Center. We hope you can join us! PTA WAIVER:  Thank you to all the families that completed their PTA  Waivers. This waiver is required to be completed once a year for each family and covers all PTA sponsored activities throughout the year including the upcoming Fall Festival!  If you haven't had a chance to complete this waiver, please do so ASAP.  It can be printed from our website at the following link: https://daytonoakspta.org/forms/

DOES STUDENT DIRECTORY:  As of last week, a fifth first grade class has been added. Printing of the directory was delayed so we could update the directory to reflect this change.  The directory will be coming out next week with your child’s Thursday folder. There will be 1 directory issued per family.

BOX TOPS/CASHBACK FOR SCHOOLS 2018: Check out the updated October "Ghouls for Schools" Form on the PTA website under the “FORMS” tab. Please turn in your completed Sheet (or put your box tops in a baggie and return) for a chance to win a DOES t shirt, gift cards and more!  One winner will be drawn from each grade!  The drawing will be held Friday November 30th! Please be sure to put your name, teacher, and grade on the form or on the baggie with your box tops. If you have any questions, please email: cashback@daytonoakspta.org

 

GIANT A+ REWARDS:  This program earns cash for our school – just by doing your regular shopping.  Please log in to www.giantfood.com/aplus to register your card and choose Dayton Oaks (ID #05391) as a designated school.  Your family and friends can designate Dayton Oaks, too!

 

HARRIS TEETER:  Log onto www.harristeeter.com and click on the “About Us” tab.  Under the “Community” link select “Together in Education” and follow the instructions.  DOES school ID is 8552.  Harris Teeter does not carry their designations over each year, so you MUST re-designate Dayton Oaks each year.

 

SMILE TRACKERS (GOLDEN SNEAKER WALK/RUN PROGRAM): The fall season is a wrap! It was a successful 6 weeks for students and faculty alike.  A handful of students even reached the 10 sMILEstone, earning a pedometer watch.  Check out the front display case to see how far the students have gone across the map.  Our exciting race will continue in the spring for another 6 weeks.  Want to get involved - want to learn more? FOOD ON THE 15TH: Please help us stock up the shelves for our first delivery! Please send in your donations to school with your children or whenever you come into the school.  Collection bins will be in the front lobby. These are suggestions. We will accept any item:

Kindergarten - grains - pasta, rice, mac & cheese, (no ramen noodles)  

1st Grade - soups - canned or dried (low sodium)

2nd Grade- proteins - canned chicken, tuna, peanut butter, beans

3rd Grade - vegetables - canned peas, corn, mixed veggies, etc.

4th Grade- fruit - canned peaches, pineapples, oranges, fruit cocktail, etc.

5th Grade- breakfast items - low sugar cereal, oatmeal, breakfast bars

RECC- grains - pasta, rice, mac & cheese, (no ramen noodles)

PTACHC (PTA COUNCIL OF HOWARD COUNTY): Did you know that our Dayton Oaks PTA is part of a larger, county-wide coalition called PTA Council of Howard County (PTACHC)? Its mission is to serve the 73 PTA groups of Howard County by creating a unified voice to advocate for children and education. The council meets monthly with members from each school to discuss important topics such as whether to expand various programs, such as JumpStart, which allows high school students to earn college credits while still in high school, overcrowding in our schools, and monitoring upcoming legislative issues that can impact our quality of education. DOES PTA AFTER SCHOOL CLASSES: Fall after-school classes at DOES are beginning! Go to “After School Activities” on the PTA Website for a complete listing and to register.

New! Kaizen Athletics will be offering Yoga on Mondays from 3:30pm-4:30pm starting November 5.  Registration information on the website and flyers will go home in the Thursday folder on 10/18.

SPECIAL EDUCATION: Check out these resources, community support groups and activities for families and students. Go to “Special Education” on the DOES PTA website. 

MEMORY BOOK: Please send photos from the first day of school, the Ice Cream Social and any upcoming events to memorybook@daytonoakspta.org labeled with the event and your child's name and grade.  Wanted! 3rd Grade and 4th Grade Photo Coordinators to take pictures of grade specific activities and ensure students are represented in the Memory Book.  If you are interested, please contact Ellen Sowry at president@daytonoakspta.org
