Today is International Tolerance Day, a day of observance created with the goal of bringing awareness to the dangers of intolerance. To celebrate at DOES, students showed off how proud we are to be different by dressing wacky & tacky. Students & staff celebrated our individuality & inclusion.
If you are interested in doing more, here are a few ideas suggested by the Child Development Institute:
Model tolerance! Your children are listening & learning from you.
Answer your child’s questions honestly. Everyone notices differences & it is okay to talk about differences in a respectful manner.
Read books that value differences! You can search for books that teach tolerance on GoodReads.com
Take time to learn about other cultures and traditions.
Value the differences within your own family! Each member of the family is different in many ways and each difference should be celebrated!
